Intellectual Property Policy

Updated September 2026

This Intellectual Property Policy explains the ownership, permitted use, and protection of intellectual property associated with the Saint Louis Weather Club.

This Policy applies to the Saint Louis Weather Club’s websites, services, publications, software, systems, graphics, branding, media, written materials, and other content, unless a separate license, agreement, or notice expressly provides otherwise.

Nothing in this Policy grants any right, title, or interest in intellectual property except as expressly stated.

1. Ownership

The Saint Louis Weather Club owns or lawfully uses intellectual property associated with its organization, services, publications, branding, and original content.

This may include trademarks, service marks, trade names, logos, slogans, graphics, photographs, videos, written materials, website content, software, source code, databases, interface designs, illustrations, documents, publications, data presentations, and other original works.

Certain materials displayed or distributed by the Saint Louis Weather Club may be owned by third parties and used under license, permission, public-domain status, government-use rules, or other applicable legal authority.

Third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners.

2. Trademarks and Service Marks

Names, logos, slogans, service names, program names, product names, symbols, and other brand identifiers used by the Saint Louis Weather Club may function as trademarks or service marks.

The Saint Louis Weather Club may claim rights in marks regardless of whether they are federally registered, state registered, or unregistered.

The absence of a registration symbol does not mean that the Saint Louis Weather Club has waived or abandoned any trademark rights.

A current list of selected Saint Louis Weather Club trademarks, service marks, registration information, and usage guidance may be maintained within this Policy or in an accompanying trademark schedule.

The Saint Louis Weather Club reserves all rights in its trademarks and service marks.

3. Trademark Symbols

Where appropriate, the Saint Louis Weather Club may use the symbols ™ or ℠ with marks for which it claims trademark or service mark rights.

The symbol ® may be used only for marks that are federally registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and only in connection with the goods or services covered by that registration.

The use or omission of a trademark symbol does not determine whether legal rights exist in a particular mark.

4. Permitted References

You may generally refer to the Saint Louis Weather Club by name for legitimate informational, editorial, educational, news, commentary, or descriptive purposes, provided that the reference is accurate and does not create a false impression of sponsorship, endorsement, authorization, partnership, or affiliation.

For example, a person may accurately state that information came from the Saint Louis Weather Club, discuss an article published by the Saint Louis Weather Club, or link to an official Saint Louis Weather Club webpage.

Such references must not misrepresent the nature of the relationship between the Saint Louis Weather Club and the person or organization making the reference.

5. Restricted Trademark Use

Unless you have prior written permission from the Saint Louis Weather Club or your use is otherwise protected by applicable law, you may not use Saint Louis Weather Club trademarks, logos, service names, or other brand identifiers in a manner that is likely to cause confusion regarding source, sponsorship, affiliation, approval, or endorsement.

You may not use Saint Louis Weather Club branding in connection with fraudulent, deceptive, misleading, unlawful, or harmful activity.

You may not alter a Saint Louis Weather Club mark in a way that materially changes its identity and then present the altered version as an official Saint Louis Weather Club mark.

You may not combine a Saint Louis Weather Club mark with another name, logo, symbol, or design in a manner that suggests a joint brand, partnership, sponsorship, or official relationship without authorization.

You may not use a Saint Louis Weather Club trademark as the primary or dominant name of an unrelated business, organization, application, website, social-media account, publication, service, event, or product.

6. Logos

Saint Louis Weather Club logos may not be reproduced, modified, recolored, distorted, animated, combined with other graphics, or used as a profile image, application icon, website logo, organization logo, product mark, or promotional graphic without permission, except where such use is permitted by applicable law.

When permission is granted, logos must be used in accordance with any applicable brand guidelines, spacing requirements, color requirements, attribution instructions, or other conditions communicated by the Saint Louis Weather Club.

Permission to use a logo for one purpose does not constitute permission to use it for another purpose.

7. Slogans and Taglines

Slogans, taglines, campaign names, and similar phrases used by the Saint Louis Weather Club may be protected by trademark, copyright, or other applicable law depending on the nature and use of the material.

Use of a Saint Louis Weather Club slogan in a manner that suggests official endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, or ownership by another person or organization is prohibited unless authorized.

8. Domain Names and Online Identities

You may not register, acquire, operate, or use a domain name, subdomain, social-media account, username, handle, application name, or other online identifier that is confusingly similar to a Saint Louis Weather Club name, mark, or brand where the use is likely to mislead users regarding ownership, affiliation, authorization, or endorsement.

This includes impersonation accounts, misleading support accounts, fraudulent login pages, deceptive websites, and other online properties that falsely appear to be operated by or associated with the Saint Louis Weather Club.

9. Copyright

Original content created by the Saint Louis Weather Club may be protected by copyright law.

This may include articles, photographs, graphics, illustrations, videos, website text, reports, documents, publications, software, code, interface elements, compilations, original databases, and other creative works.

Unless otherwise stated, no permission is granted to reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, sublicense, publicly display, publicly perform, adapt, or create derivative works from copyrighted Saint Louis Weather Club material except as permitted by applicable law.

Limited quotation, commentary, criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, research, and other uses may be permitted under doctrines such as fair use. Whether a use qualifies as fair use depends on the circumstances and cannot be determined solely by this Policy.

10. Linking and Sharing

You may generally link to publicly accessible Saint Louis Weather Club webpages without requesting permission.

You may share a link to Saint Louis Weather Club content through social media, messaging platforms, email, or similar services, provided that the content is not misrepresented and the link does not falsely imply endorsement or sponsorship.

Linking permission does not include permission to copy the entire content of a webpage, reproduce substantial portions of an article, frame content in a misleading manner, or remove attribution.

11. Screenshots

Reasonable screenshots of Saint Louis Weather Club webpages may generally be used for commentary, reporting, educational discussion, criticism, or similar lawful purposes.

Screenshots must not be altered in a manner that creates a materially false or misleading representation of the original content.

Screenshots containing private account information, restricted information, security-sensitive material, personal information, or confidential administrative content may not be distributed merely because the material was technically visible to a particular user.

12. Publications and Articles

Articles, reports, advisories, educational materials, and other publications created by the Saint Louis Weather Club remain protected by applicable intellectual-property rights unless expressly released under a different license.

You may quote limited portions of Saint Louis Weather Club publications where legally permitted, provided the quotation is accurate and appropriately attributed.

Republishing an entire article, report, graphic, photograph, or substantial portion of a publication generally requires permission unless applicable law provides otherwise.

13. Photographs and Video

Photographs and videos created by or for the Saint Louis Weather Club may be protected by copyright.

You may not download, reproduce, redistribute, edit, sell, license, or commercially exploit Saint Louis Weather Club photographs or videos unless permission has been granted or applicable law permits the use.

Where media is expressly identified as available for press, educational, public-information, or other permitted use, the accompanying terms and attribution requirements govern that use.

14. Software and Code

Software, scripts, source code, application interfaces, website code, and other technical materials created by the Saint Louis Weather Club may be protected by copyright, trade-secret law, contract, or other legal protections.

Access to a public-facing website or service does not grant permission to copy, reproduce, reverse engineer, redistribute, sell, sublicense, or create unauthorized derivative versions of proprietary Saint Louis Weather Club software or code.

Open-source components remain subject to their respective licenses.

If the Saint Louis Weather Club publishes software under an open-source license, that license governs the permitted use of the applicable code.

15. Data and Databases

Individual facts may not themselves be protected by copyright, but original compilations, organization, presentation, selection, arrangement, software, database structure, graphics, and other original elements may be protected.

Data displayed by the Saint Louis Weather Club may also be subject to third-party licenses, contractual restrictions, attribution requirements, redistribution limitations, or government terms.

You are responsible for complying with any applicable terms associated with underlying data sources.

Access to data through a Saint Louis Weather Club service does not automatically grant permission to scrape, redistribute, resell, archive, commercially exploit, or create a competing database from that data.

16. Third-Party Materials

The Saint Louis Weather Club may display or reference materials owned by third parties, including government agencies, research institutions, news organizations, technology providers, photographers, data providers, mapping providers, and other organizations.

Use of third-party material is governed by the rights and terms of the applicable owner or provider.

The inclusion of third-party material on a Saint Louis Weather Club service does not transfer ownership of that material to the Saint Louis Weather Club and does not necessarily grant users permission to reuse it.

Users should review the original source and applicable license before reproducing third-party material.

17. Government Information

Some information provided by government agencies may be in the public domain under United States law, but not every item appearing on a government website is necessarily free of copyright or other restrictions.

Government logos, seals, insignia, contractor-produced materials, photographs credited to third parties, and certain datasets or products may have separate restrictions.

Users are responsible for verifying the legal status of the particular material they intend to reuse.

18. User-Submitted Material

Users may submit photographs, videos, observations, reports, comments, text, or other material to certain Saint Louis Weather Club services.

Users retain ownership of their original content unless otherwise agreed.

By submitting material, a user grants the Saint Louis Weather Club the rights described in the applicable Terms of Service, submission form, release, agreement, or other notice presented when the material is submitted.

Users must not submit material that infringes another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.

19. Attribution

Where the Saint Louis Weather Club authorizes use of its material subject to attribution, the attribution must be reasonably clear, accurate, and visible.

Unless a different form is specified, an appropriate attribution may identify the Saint Louis Weather Club as the source.

Attribution does not imply endorsement.

A user may not state or imply that the Saint Louis Weather Club approves, sponsors, certifies, or endorses the user's product, organization, service, publication, campaign, or activity unless the Saint Louis Weather Club has expressly authorized such a representation.

20. Commercial Use

Commercial use of Saint Louis Weather Club trademarks, logos, copyrighted works, media, or other protected materials generally requires prior written authorization unless applicable law permits the use without permission.

A commercial use includes use intended to advertise, promote, sell, license, monetize, or increase the commercial value of a product, service, organization, publication, or other offering.

The Saint Louis Weather Club may approve, deny, condition, or revoke permission for commercial use.

21. Educational and Noncommercial Use

Educational, nonprofit, personal, or noncommercial status does not automatically make every use permissible.

Certain uses may be allowed under copyright exceptions, fair use, nominative fair use, or other legal doctrines, but the determination depends on the circumstances.

Where permission is required, noncommercial users should request authorization in the same manner as commercial users.

22. No Implied Endorsement

Use of Saint Louis Weather Club names or materials must not imply that the Saint Louis Weather Club endorses or approves a person, organization, product, service, political position, campaign, publication, event, or other activity unless such endorsement has been expressly authorized.

This restriction applies even where use of the underlying name or material would otherwise be permissible.

23. Permission Requests

Requests to use Saint Louis Weather Club trademarks, copyrighted works, logos, photographs, media, or other protected materials may be submitted to the Saint Louis Weather Club.

A request should identify the material requested, the proposed use, where the material will appear, whether the use is commercial, and how long the material will be used.

Permission is not effective unless granted by an authorized representative of the Saint Louis Weather Club.

Silence, failure to respond, prior informal use, or the absence of an enforcement action does not constitute permission.

The Saint Louis Weather Club may impose reasonable conditions on any permission it grants and may revoke permission where the terms of authorization are violated.

24. Reporting Intellectual Property Concerns

If you believe material on a Saint Louis Weather Club service infringes your copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property rights, you may contact the Saint Louis Weather Club with sufficient information to identify the material and explain the basis of your concern.

The Saint Louis Weather Club may request additional information before reviewing or acting on a claim.

Knowingly submitting a false or materially misleading infringement claim may have legal consequences.

25. Copyright Complaints

A copyright owner or authorized representative who believes material hosted by the Saint Louis Weather Club infringes a copyright should provide information sufficient to identify the copyrighted work, identify the allegedly infringing material, provide contact information, explain the basis of the claim, and provide any statements or certifications required by applicable law.

If the Saint Louis Weather Club becomes subject to formal requirements under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act or another applicable process, additional procedures may be established.

26. Enforcement

The Saint Louis Weather Club reserves the right to protect and enforce its intellectual-property rights.

Depending on the circumstances, enforcement may include requesting correction of improper attribution, requesting removal of material, revoking permission, restricting access to Saint Louis Weather Club services, submitting platform or hosting complaints, sending cease-and-desist correspondence, or pursuing other remedies available under applicable law.

The Saint Louis Weather Club is not required to take action in every instance of suspected infringement.

Failure to enforce a right in one instance does not constitute a waiver of that right.

27. Unauthorized or Misleading Use

The Saint Louis Weather Club may object to uses of its intellectual property that are likely to confuse the public, falsely imply affiliation, imitate official communications, misrepresent the source of information, impersonate the organization, or otherwise create a materially misleading impression.

Particular concern may arise where Saint Louis Weather Club branding is used in connection with weather warnings, emergency information, public-safety messages, account login pages, solicitations, donations, financial requests, advertisements, or communications presented as official.

28. Trademark List

The Saint Louis Weather Club may maintain a list of selected trademarks and service marks covered by this Policy.

The list is illustrative and is not necessarily exhaustive.

Failure to include a particular name, logo, slogan, service name, or other identifier on the list does not mean that the Saint Louis Weather Club waives any rights it may have in that identifier.

A trademark list may include the mark, applicable symbol, owner, registration status, registration number where applicable, and any specific usage requirements.

29. Changes to This Policy

The Saint Louis Weather Club may amend this Intellectual Property Policy from time to time.

Changes may be made to reflect new trademarks, registrations, services, branding standards, licenses, legal requirements, enforcement practices, or organizational changes.

When this Policy is revised, the “Last Updated” date may be changed accordingly.

Unless otherwise required by law, the revised Policy becomes effective on the date stated in the updated version.

30. Relationship to Other Policies

This Intellectual Property Policy should be read together with the Saint Louis Weather Club Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Image Use Policy, submission terms, licensing notices, brand guidelines, and other applicable policies.

Where a specific license, written permission, agreement, or service-specific rule conflicts with this general Policy, the more specific terms govern for the applicable material or use.

31. No Legal Advice

This Policy describes the Saint Louis Weather Club’s intellectual-property practices and requirements.

It does not provide legal advice to users and does not determine whether a particular use qualifies as fair use, nominative fair use, public-domain use, or another legally protected use.

Users are responsible for determining whether their proposed use complies with applicable law.
